The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is the largest certified program in the health education field. This programmatic accreditation is approved after an edification program is analyzed and it is decided that the program is in observance with the standards set by CAAHEP.
This is a non-profit organization, and it is accepted by the CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation), and is located in Clearwater, FL.
In the association with its Committees on Accreditation, this organization analyzes and sanctions over 2,000 educational programs in 28 health science activities. CAAHEP is a postsecondary education program. It is a member of ASPA (Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors).

Description of The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Profession
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography profession integrates general sonography, vascular technology, cardiac sonography, and several subspecialties. The job requires critical decision making and the capacity to provide proper health care services.
Adult Cardiac Sonographers, General Sonographers, Pediatric Cardiac Sonographers, and Vascular Technologists, and other technologists must able to perform the following:
- Get the review and include relevant patient history and sustaining clinical information to obtain optimum diagnostic results.
- Perform proper procedures and document pathologic, anatomic and physiologic information for analysis by a physician.

How The CAAHEP Is Organized
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs is comprised of both a Board of Directors and a Commission. The Commission is a collection of representatives selected to represent the CAAHEP organizations and other communities.
The commissioners are accountable for approving the mission, bylaws, and vision statements of CAAHEP Accredited Program. Additionally, they are responsible for deciding which health program professions are to be identified by CAAHEP.
The CAAHEP BOD (Board of Directors) is a 16-member committee elected by the Commissioners. The Board is the recognized body of CAAHEP that denies or awards accreditation after appraisal of accreditation proposals made by the COA.
It is also the major governing body that manages the CAAHEP business and implements the vision and mission as accepted by the Commission.

A Medical assisting graduate program accredited by CAAHEP or the ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) is qualified to take the CMA certification exam.
